Product coverSimple Sentence Structure

Are you working with children who have a core vocabulary of nouns and verbs but having difficulty conveying meaning? This program helps children understand the importance of Subject-Verb-Object word order.

Product Description:
Many children with language impairments have persistent problems with word order processing and production. This pioneering language intervention program helps them learn the importance of Subject-Verb-Object word order in sentences.

Here's how it works…
Using Laureate’s Optimized Intervention technology, Simple Sentence Structure begins with an assessment test to determine where to begin training. Then the program automatically guides the student through the appropriate curriculum.

Simple Sentence Structure highlights the roles of subjects, objects, and verbs in sentences. Students move through four sentence sets: contrasting subjects, contrasting objects, contrasting verbs, and subject/object reversal.

During training, the student is presented with two pictures and asked to identify one of them (e.g. “Find…‘The boy is splashing the girl.’”) The program monitors each student response and then adjusts the training level accordingly. At the end of each lesson, a summary of the student’s performance is presented, allowing you to quickly review your student’s progress and ensure accountability.

Four contrasting sentence sets
Each sentence set contains 20 sentences. In each set, students are shown two pictures and they must choose the one that represents a given sentence. Here are some sample sentences from each set.

Contrasting Verbs
The mother is holding the baby.
The mother is washing the baby.

Contrasting Objects
The girl is riding her horse.
The girl is riding her bike.

Contrasting Subjects
The boy is washing the monster.
The monkey is washing the monster.

Subject/Object Reversal
The bear is riding the lion.
The lion is riding the bear.

Who will benefit from Simple Sentence Structure?
• Children with Down syndrome who make errors in the processing and production of sentences in correct Subject-Verb-Object word order.

• Children with autism will benefit from the direct instruction to establish correct word order processing and production.

• Children with specific language impairments who are already speaking in short sentences, but make errors in comprehending and producing Subject-Verb-Object word order.

• Children with significant language delays who are in the late one-word stage of development. At this point, they have a core vocabulary of over 100 words but have not yet begun to combine words. Simple Sentence Structure can help these children move into the two-word stage without encountering word-order difficulties.
